Code Charge Detail
ARB ARBITRARY Covers the feeder cost from the orgin to the port of load and the port of discharge to the final destination port
BAF BUNKER ADJUSTMENT FACTOR Freight adjustment factor to reflect current cost of bunkers. Must always be in the same currency and same debtor code than freight
BRC / BUC BUNKER RECOVERY COST SURCHARGE / BUNKER CONTRIBUTION To recover losses from increased price for bunker in Latin America
CAF CURRENCY ADJUSTMENT
 FACTOR
Adjusts the freight to reflect currency exchange fluctuations. Must always be in the same currency and same debtor code than freight
CGS CONGESTION SURCHARGE Applicable in congested ports due to huge cargo volume
COD CHANGE OF DESTINATION
FEE
This charge has to be used in every case where a change of destination is requested. Is usually to be manifested on the manifest corrector amending the change of destination

COMMODITY SURCHARGE

Surcharge that applies on commodities like cars, personnal effects, alcoho, coffee, etc.
CSF CARRIER SECURITY FEE Cost of compliance with security risk and risk development plans, administration and operational expenses
CUS CUSTOMS DUTY Costs for customs documents that MSC or customer has to pay to export and import or re-export a container.
DMG DEMURRAGE It is exceptionaly manifested where a container couldn't be cleared at destination by the consignee and the shipper books it back to the pol, or for re-export to another/new destination. In this case the shipper is to cover the demurrage incurred at the original destination
DOC DOCUMENTATION FEE Covers various documentation fees
DTT DETENTION Detention is the charge to apply when a container remains ashore after free time granted at port of load has expired. Please refer to export local requirements for details on detention rates to apply
EBS EQUIPMENT IMBALANCE SURCHARGE This charge contributes to the costs faced due to trade imbalance
ECU EXPORT CHASSIS USAGE Cost for the truck chassis usage applicable on US Inland service.
FAS FUEL ADDITIONAL
 SURCHARGE
The fuel additional surcharge is applicable on top of the bunker adjustment factor. (emergency BAF)
FES FUEL ESCALATION SURCHARGE This charge is for trucking and rail expenses other then inland transportation. This charge represents a fuel increase to inland delivery other then the actual inland charge and is linked to the precarriage/oncarriage
FQS FOOD QUALITY SURCHARGE Surcharge that applies on the food commodities.
FRT SEAFREIGHT To manifest the amount of money payable for the carriage of goods. It includes all charges payable to the carrier in accordance with the applicable tariff and the bill of lading
FSF FORWARDING SERVICE
 FEE
This fee is based on the export declaration done by chosen freight forwarder of MSC USA. In other words it manifest the cost to file the export declaration to US Customs when this is done through MSC via a chosen freight forwarder

HTC HEAVY TESTED
CONTAINER
Charge applicable when heavy tested containers need to be separated from the sea freight
IHC INDIAN STATUTORY SERVICE TAX Indian Government tax applicable on Indian inland haulage and Indian port THC. It is applicable on both import and export
LPF LATE PICK UP FEE Charge applicable when containers are picked up late by consignee in order to increase storage capacity in the terminal. This charge is applicable on top of demurrage
LSC LOW SULPHUR FUEL CONTRIBUTION

To cover the additional cost in the usage of fuel oil with a low sulphur content. 

LWS LOW WATER SURCHARGE To be manifested due to the very warm and dry weather all over Continental Europe that has lowed down the level of Rhine. As a result of the low water level, the barge operators are restricted in the amount of cargo they are able to load on the barges.
MCT MANIFEST STATUTORY SERVICE TAX ndian Government tax applicable on Indian inland haulage and Indian port THC. It is applicable on both import and export
ODS OVER DIMENSION
 SURCHARGE
In case an open top or flat container has overdimensions, this extra cost is separated, quoted to the clients and should be paid for the loss of slot and the extra handling charge MSC has to pay to the stevedores for loading and discharging
OHS OVERHEIGHT SURCHARGE To be used when the cargo is overheight
OLS OVERLENGTH SURCHARGE To be used when the cargo is overlength
ONC ONCARRIAGE Used to manifest the transportation for an inland final destination (rail, truck..etc...)
OTS OPENTOP SURCHARGE This is the standardize additional freight rate imposed for open top containers as most ocean freight rates are quoted only for dry van containers, i.e. 20'dv or 40'dv
OVW OVERWEIGHT To be used when a container is overweight
OWS OVERWIDTH SURCHARGE When the cargo on a flat container is overwidth, or left or right
PCS PANAMA CANAL LOCK IMPROVEMENT SURCHARGE To pay for additional expenses billed to MSC by PCA for the improvement of PC locks
PRE PRECARRIAGE Used for the inland transportation prior to the loading on the vessel
PRS PIRACY RISK SURCHARGE Charge applicable to cover the risk of piracy
PRM PRIMAGE (TURKISH FEES) Primage is the referred charge for local costs and fee charges. It is a percentage of the freight
RCP REEFER CONTAINER PLUGGING AND MONITORING Charge covering the plugging and monitoring of reefer containers connected in the terminal
RNT ROUND TRIP This charge code is used to manifest containers that will return to the original port of loading
ROL ROLLOVER FEE To cover any extra handling within port terminal due to shut out, renomination or rollover
RSC REEFER SURCHARGE Applied when exporting reefer containers. There is normally a surcharge per teu in addition to the current tariff for a dry van container
SCC SERVICE CONTAINER CHARGE Port surcharge applicable to manifest cargo handling charges at terminal
SEL SEAL FEE Cost to seal or re-seal a container
SPS ISPS - INTERN. SHIP AND
PORT SECURITY
CHARGE (POL)
ISPS is a charge covering Terminal fees and expenses charged to the carrier by the terminals in relation with the compliance with the International Ship and Port Security plan
STO STORAGE In case that the costs for storage at origin/destination are paid by the shipper/consignee
SUR SURVEY FEE To cover the cost to survey a container
THC / CSC TERMINAL HANDLING
CHARGE / CONTAINER
SERVICE CHARGE
To manifest the handling charges at destination in most ports in the world where handling charges are applicable. This charge is to be manifested in local currency and collect
TRI TRI-AXLE SURCHARGE If any container is exceeding the road weight allowed then a surcharge is applicable per container on the top of the inland rate when a truck with tri-Axles chassis is necessary
WAR WAR RISK PREMIUM Surcharge to applied based on MSC instructions due to War risk
WHA WHARFAGE Surcharge to be asked when  goods are being held on the terminal for a certain time until transportation or delivery at destination
